Seth Apter's 2010 Buried Treasure Collaboration

The Premise of this collaboration is that  because there are so many amazing posts  each day by such an assortment of the most talented artists around,  it is virtually impossible to have the time to see them all. Seth has requested artists to select their own "favorite post" to link to his
2010 Buried Treasure Listing Here. ( I call it "Unearthing my diamond jiLY)
My  contribution for this collaboration is from my post called Serendipitous Serendipity which you can see here based on my latest artwork I created for the
in collaboration with The Mount Sinai Medical Center in May 2010.

It starts  off the same as my original posting on May 11, 2010- but the ending is very different. On June 21, 2010,  I went to work in my role as  Vice Chair of Administration for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC.  I ended up having a "first ever" seizure at a meeting with my Chairman and my 2 other Vice Chairs of Emergency Medicine.  They took me to my own ER, where it was discovered that  I had a brain abscess. As the bacteria could not easily  be identified and the abscess was growing rapidly, I had brain surgery to have it removed - led by a world renowned team  of doctors consisting of a neurosurgeon, neurologist and infectious disease specialist. I am now recovering at home on a multi month course of  IV antibiotic treatments for a  full recovery.  I am blessed to be alive- to have the most amazing supportive network of  my husband, two children, dad, sister, brother, precious friends, doctors, co-workers, therapists, colleagues and special 11:11 angels watching over me.  I can no longer drive (which I hope will not be  permanent), and have reductions in my eyesight which i am also  optimistic will return when the swelling in my brain goes down.  I have  actually been blessed by this catastrophic event- and look forward to  continue to see rainbows everyday, be inspired with new creativity - and hoping in at least  small ways, I can touch others as  I have been so overwhelmingly touched by them.

My new beginning, starting with my  first post dated July  3, 2010 made from my hospital  bed which you can see here.

As most beautifully written by Helen Keller:

The Best and the  Most Beautiful Things  in the World
Cannot be  seen or Even touched.
They must be FELT with the HEART.

Jill, you are the most fantastic person – with your strength, your creativity, empathy and your warmth.
Your pic for the collaboration is a diamond with all its reflections, mystery, symbolism and it looks different each time I look at it. Sure sign of a real diamond!
Thanks for sharing with us your story - can´t find words here. And the new beautiful images – optimism! And we all wait for your next post – because we can´t be without. No-one can find us like you can. I think you got my number! Best wishes Steen

The May 11th posting is wonderful, the Buried Treasure update is amazing, and a little scary (we just never know). The new dawn picture is so beautiful.
Thank you for this posting.
Happy days,
Joanie

oh Jilly.... I wish I'd known, my angel duties are officially retroactive. Every illness, incident, accident is unique in all the details but one thing is common, a new path is forged. mine was in '05 and it has turned out to be an enormous blessing, especially since I'd never done art of any kind (except photography) until '06 when I realized I was on a new journey that wasn't going to be like the old one. I can't imagine what you and your family have been through and I'm so thankful that you have the support network that allows you to free fall when you have to... you go girl!

Sometimes our soul knows what we truly need for our recovery, our well being, our health and getting us on the right path, again. What a beautiful work of art. There was one grouping of words that really caught my eye, Move the thoughts of myself to another. Beautiful! :)Bea

Dear Jill,

This morning when I awoke and read your email, updating us on recent occurrences in your live, I was reminded how fragile life is. Though I shall comment to your letter over the weekend, I wish to express that I am delighted to learn of your support group, especially that of your family.

I wish you a speedy recovery and all the very best, knowing that your recovery journey will be an adventure I feel will be turned into art.

Jill, I was so touched by your comment on my post about Puffins. Thank you. I was feeling 'restricted' with a badly broken dominant arm [and like you, one of my thoughts was 'what, no driving?'] when I read your inspirational story. How wonderful to see how you are embracing your current situation. Seth's project has really brought new meaning to the words 'collaborative art'!

Rainbows are very special to me, too. I saw one on my way to the hospital after my fall...

Do let me know if you pursue the Puffin art... I'd love to see it, please.

Many good recuperative wishes, meanwhile, from Wales...

P.S. I also loved the collaborative art project blog, too. Amazing work...

Jill, thank you for sharing your experience with us, my sister is a pharmacist and had a similar bacterial experience that ended well largely because she was already in a hospital when it occurred, and she recovered and has a full beautiful life, which is what all of us out here in blog-land wish for you. Looking forward to new Jilly works soon.

Thanks for your comment on my blog today. I definitely have been here and read your post last week, but there's no comment from me here... don't know why but I want you to know that I LOVE the artwork and I wish you strength. Strenght and confidence that everything will be alright!

This is one of my favourite of your artworks, Jill. So much energy and life bursting out of it!

I am so sorry to hear of your illness. That must have been really scary! I hope you are having a smooth, easy recovery and that you are back to your old self in no time!
