Distressed Elements - The Final Pages Completed in Seth Apter's Innerworks Altered Book

I've just completed the final entry in Seth Apter's amazing Innerworks book
titled "Distressed Elements " which is also my last book to work in for our altered book collaboration. What a wonderful opportunity it's been to work with 5 spectacular artists, to participate in an altered book collaboration for the first time, and to be influenced by the selected themes and personality of each artist. Seth's theme- as he describes here, has inspired me to complete these pages in a new style, engaging in different types of techniques while exploring this new concept for me of "distressed elements".
As you begin, try to imagine that in the background, an old wind up Victrola is playing "parlor" music.
Working in this book was a time for unveiling thoughts about myself, my life, the world around me and my connection to my mom - inspired by the photographs of people that Seth included in his opening section. Here are a few images from my pages.
The young girl's face below is that of my mom at about age 2.
To view and frame her picture on the right side and another scene on the left side of the page - I made and inserted a glass pane window which you can see below.
Below is an excerpt from a poem written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning from one of my pages.
This page reflects a state of renewal and rebirth- reflected with a pair of beautiful wings on a butterfly given to me by Alicia of Altered Bits.
Thank you Seth and all of my amazing InnerWorks collaborators who have worked in this book before me, gifting me with their thoughts - enabling my creative spirit to soar, and blessing me with the wonderful fortune to have my artwork grace this book.

These pages are stunning Jill. A fusion of my theme and your creativity. I am very happy that my book was a catalyst for you to be able to create such personal pages as a tribute to your mom. I can see your work was very meaningful to you and as such, it is meaningful to me. Thank you!!

Jill, the pages are wonderful. So heartfelt and special as you have included pieces from your own family in it. The inner works collaboration has been so inspiring to follow and I can't wait to play in everyone else's book in my own current Pulse Redux collaboration as a result!

Hello Jill - I missed this update again! I'm going to try and refresh your link after this by going into my layout settings to see what I can do. Well, this is just delightful. I had no idea you were working on this thing with Seth too! Well well! I love everything here that you've done. I must share all of Alicia's sentiments and I totally agree, you must be in our next book project!!! I think there will most definitely be a Pulp Redux Number Two!!

PS. I have an 18 month old, and when I looked at that most beautiful picture of your mum at two, I really felt those words: The voice of the silence...forever.
With that said, I'm now going to tip toe into my son's room now, while he's asleep, and think about those words. How fast we grow, how fast we live, how fast we pass from this world.
Thanks Jill.
