It's a new year and I've decided to try new techniques, experiment, and make a collage from a xerox copy of my metamorphosis piece on heavy weight water color paper. An assortment of cancelled stamps have been added, I've painted on top of my old design with both acrylic and watercolor paints, and have added a new butterfly from Alicia Caudle's image collection which can be found in her Altered Bits Shop. I've gone totally out of my comfort zone by adding a pre- made face to my work. I use to think that if I added other people's designs to my work, it's then "not authentically" mine - but I'm starting to overcome this concept. I will continue to take some leaps outside my "style" and "color palette" in creating a few new works of art!
Follow your heart to always feel comfortable with your art, even if it's new, and not quite feeling "you". Change the works you are not happy with by tearing them up to make new works, paint over them, or give them away- be creative about "repurposing them". I hope that no matter how foreign my new works may appear, I will always feel my art is
"my home".
To celebrate the launch of the magazine Cloth- Paper Scissors' new community, the editors asked their readers to submit "New Year's Resolution" art. I'm so happy to report that my submission of "I'M HOME" was selected for inclusion in this challenge as seen here. Hope you can browse through the gallery site to see all of the wonderful works of art that have been included.

You willingness to expand and stretch outside your comfort zone has paid off. This is a piece that packs a pow! And the approach may be new but the style says you! And a big congrats on being on the CPS site. That is a great way to begin a new year!
Yay for you! I see you're finally out of your funk (as am I:) and in my blog post I wrote about how your creativity gestates during those times. In your case it certainly has!! I know what you mean about faces but if you think about it, you didn't take the photo of the butterfly... or make the paper:) The face is another element that looks great because of the way YOU used it. Sorry for the book length:)

congrats on CPS!!!
WOW! First visit here, to thank you for your thoughts and to take a peek at your work. I WILL be back!
Hi Jill! Thanks for visiting my site. And I so identify with the "not using other's art" because then it's not "my" art. And, I'm just a practicing artist, not for profit, etc. Maybe I'll rethink this! Take care...
oh jill -- this is just magnificent! it's no wonder that they have published it. congratulations, my talented friend! i know what you mean about going out of your comfort zone and trying new things -- that is me and fabric. but it's fun, too! i am just so in love with this piece. i would love to feature it in the altered bits gallery that i've been working on plumping up if that would be okay with you. it's so great! and YOU are so great. :)
