The Pulse of Mixed Media- Day 8 and a SUPER ARTWORK GIVE AWAY!

I'm thrilled and honored to be a part of Seth Apter's new book, The Pulse of Mixed Media, Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed.
(The Banner  above was created and affixed to my paintings  by the incredible artist- Michelle Ward.)
It's day 8 of the book's theatrical reveal -
To tell my story of its magical, magnetic, and dynamic  appeal.
Containing heartfelt words, deep emotions and insightful thoughts-

With gorgeous original paintings and artwork so excitedly sought.
It’s an artistic explosion- a collaboration of fun and finesse -
It's now time to celebrate
The Pulse of Mixed Media's grand success!!

As a contributor, I was asked to create a self portrait  Here's a
glimpse of my work titled "Essence of My Smile"!

Below is sneak peek of  "Creating Wonder from Within",   another mixed media artwork created for the book - filled with a tapestry of hidden and subtle secret meanings.

It may be a surprise to some, but Seth and I go back a long way. In fact, I'm tremendously excited to announce that a special art and poetry collaborative project of ours titled  "The Gift" will be published this spring in the inaugural  edition of a new quarterly Art Magazine FEATURING,  founded by the amazing Marit Barentsen.

In celebration of  The Pulse of Mixed Media
And as part of the  kick off of the book-
I'm  having  a  big GIVE AWAY!
One lucky winner will be able to say they are the very proud owner of
Elemental VII-a Seth Apter original work
In Seth's own words,  "It is a  'one-of-a-kind'.. created on cold press watercolor paper, handmade in Montreal at the Papeterie Saint Armand."  Measuring 10" x 7 1/2", it's one of the largest pieces sold in his Etsy shop and can be seen below! This fabulous piece was originally highlighted and on exhibition at the Virtual TART site, an art website organized by artist Dale Copeland and based in New Zealand.
All you need to do is leave a comment on this posting- and at the end of our 31/31  March book  party, I will choose one  lucky winner at random. Please make sure that I will be able to identify who you are so I can  make contact and send you this precious gift!

Seth: Now that I'm giving away one of your stunning pieces of artwork- I hope you will answer the following question for your readers:  You've indicated that your meeting with Patricia Larsen was  the cataclysmic event that started  your  life to become the artist and author that you are today. Looking back to that time, do you think you'd have entered the field of art if you hadn't seen her work and visited her gallery?  If so, what other event or person do you think would have  taken you into the world of art?  And, if  your answer is no, do you think that there would have been another passion that you'd  be engaged in now other than art.... Can you also please tell us what triggered you to create your infamous The Altered Page  blog? And for those reading this post, I would love to  hear     what inspired you to create your website or blog.

In conjunction with the book's release,  Seth has scheduled events across the country.  I am so excited to be part of the New York City book release  on March 31, 2012 from 10:00AM- 12:00 Noon  at the Ink Pad   along with other contributing artists including Michelle Ward, Leslie Marsh, Karen Cole, Roxanne Evans Stout and Julie Prichard!  We will be discussing our creative processes and contributions to the book, answer audience questions, show samples of our work, and sign copies of the book.  The event is free and open to the public but you must contact the Ink Pad in advance at (212) 463-9876 as seats are limited.
With very special thanks and tremendous appreciation to everyone who has joined this amazing book tour!

First of all it must be really exciting for you and it certainly is for us that your work gets published more and more frequently - and here in the “The Pulse of Mixed Media” . I am also happy that your new collaborative work with Seth will be published in the new “Featuring” magazine.
It was wonderful to open your new post and meet your enchanting smile! – truly an inspiring entrance to your art!! The images are warm and full of mystique. I have ordered my book and I can´t wait to start an expedition into the subtle secret meanings in your work of which I am sure I might understand only little. But I already found a subtle entrance to the music that you always graciously include! I wish you and your friends good luck with the March 31 event in NY. Must be fun to be with all of you that are so creative and what you all do is very special and it makes a difference to all of us!

I am enjoying the sneak peeks of "Creating wonder from within" and "Essence of my (beautiful) smile". This blog tour feels like a party doesn't it?! And the cherry on the top.... a chance to win one of Seth's pieces. Thanks Jill, I can't wait to see the whole images in the book.

Seth has an amazing gift of bringing people together and I've loved meeting the featured artists through his blog. I love the bright colors that you use in your work and find myself smiling as I look at them, especially as I tend to gravitate to the darker side of the spectrum. I can't wait to receive Seth's book and am anxiousy checking my mailbox in the hope that its arrived.

I'm so excited for you and Seth... did you know I am in Seth's book too? (not with my art though - but one of my answers to a question is in there.) I'm proud to 'know' you both and I wish I could be there when the book is released!

Jill, wow! Exciting times for you with the recent publications - congrats! Looking forward to meeting you at the end of the month.
Love your questions to Seth ;) Fun to put the assignment on him, even though he has done alot of homework already!
As for the 2nd question of starting a blog - I will chime in on that one. I felt like a blog was a much more friendly way to post recent work (vs. a standard website) as it provided the invitation for readers to participate in the conversation. I've met so many wonderful people through this platform!

Hello Jill

So nice to meet you! I just love your colorful artwork. M

My blog started as a weightloss blog. After i lost the weight i wanted to show there was more to me than a number on the scale so i shared more of myself including my artwork. I hope you'll take a minute and hop over and say hi!

Great post Jill! I'm so anxious to see the book in person. Your work looks like a fantastic contribution.
I liked the story of how you and Seth met that he talks about on his blog.
The reason I started my blog was because I wanted to "play" in Seth's first Disco collaboration!! He has been an inspiration to me ever since.

yes - it does feel like a party
such a rich banquet of offerings
why did I start my blog
now 5+ years ago?
- my blog functions as a kind of studio - virtually mess-free
- I live in a quiet natural environment and I wanted a way to be here, share my work and connect with a larger community...

people like Seth and yourself have enriched this experience beyond measure...

thanks so much,
xox - eb.

I become more and more inspired in my blog with each and every art blog I find. It makes for such rich and evolving friendships.

Godbless Seth Apter for bringing all these wonderful artists into my life, yourself included! Finding your blog is like a July 4th explosion of color and excitement. I am so jazzed to see your work and to learn about you and Seth and and and and....pardon my over exuberance this morning, but it is just all so exciting.

Thanks for the chance!
Will spend more time here as you continue to post! Wow!!!

Can the consolation prize in this great giveaway be an altered bottle that has some of the spillover from your great smile? Just lovely how your work shows your inner smile!

Jill, such a wonderful and inspiring post. I am quaking in my boots as #16, hoping I can live up to the wonderful job everyone has done.

Your work is so rich, colorful, full of texture and symbolism. A pleasure to spend time on trying to imagine what you were thinking.

So looking forward to meeting you....how many times have I said that????

Started my blog back in January 2007, when some of the wonderful people I met at a Michael Demeng workshop in Italy were starting one. It was a great way to stay in touch.....be inspired and create new and lasting relationships with artists all over the world.

Jill! I am racing right here immediatly before I go on reading your post, drinking in your art and following links, because the very very next thing I am doing after this blog visit, is to go back to a watercolor painting (swallow with fairy hitching a ride) on a sheet of paper from a pad new to me. It's from the Papeterie Saint Armand in Montreal!!! I love it to bits. Man does it drink. It drinks like a mad dog and then leaves a floating textured soft image. I am using a magnifying glass for this piece as it's so small so I can see the paper fibres that seem to have lifted up above the paint deposit. SOFT!! Anyway, not meaning to go on but gosh I'd be beside myself to win this art piece by Seth. Please toss my name in for a chance to win. *smiles* Norma
p.s. now back to your work. You used a phrase "hidden and subtle secret meanings" to describe your work and that sure sits me up straight and listening! Nice day to you.

I am delighted with this experience and the opportunity to "meet" new artists and their work. Love your work, so joy-ful and with a deeper meaning. I started my blog to keep my beginning weaving students informed and encouraged and to stay in touch with textile friends around the world - it has grown into so much more. I will be back.

so glad to have found your beautiful work and your blog through Seth's blog. I pre-ordered my book weeks ago and I'm itching to get my hands on it! It was the lovely and talented Michelle Ward who inspired me to start my blog because I wanted to play along with her street team crusades and needed a place to post my experiments!

This 31 Day Party ROCKS!!!

... Jill...love seeing your beautiful work and beautiful face. By the way, that necklace is gorgeous.

As for the art of Blogging: my wonderful pal Michelle Ward gently tugged at my pant leg and "encouraged me" to start!...I was always sending her links and photos, so she offered to get me started as a birthday gift. I've found it a fabulous way to push out the Creative Energy into the World. Who knows if anyone's listening?...I'll just keep doing it. Wish I could be there at The Ink Pad to cheer for you!...I'll be there in spirit.

I started my blog as a way of making me accountable to myself, as an artist... and taking myself seriously. I also see it as a way of keeping a record of my process and evolving style.

I'm looking forward to getting a copy of the new book! Congrats to Seth and to you, and all the other artists. Thanks for the opportunity to join this super giveaway.

Jilly - my turn to say congrats to you!! As to what inspired my blog - I guess I was kind of lonely. I felt kind of let down after finishing my master's thesis. Even though I was with my a great art students, I was missing my own kind. I found them again online. And that inspired me to make my own community right where I was.
I was so excited to get my copy of the book yesterday. Good luck with the tour events - wish I could be there

Congrats on getting into the book, but he couldn't possibly leave you out. Your work is a reflection of your philosophy on life. Interesting that the 'giveaway' image was on the Virtual Tart site... I've been in the last two Collage Exchanges on that site. Wish I lived in NYC (or perhaps just visiting) so I could attend all Seth's 'things'. I started blogging to get a 'web presence' for my art... but it has become so much more. Love the connection between artists worldwide and the chance to see their work and communicate with them. It's all good.

Jill, I'm thrilled to find your blog via Seth. Your collages are wonderful, vibrant and full of joy. I would love to have the chance to win Seth's art work, but the real pleasure is in meeting you and all the other artists taking part in his book.

Thanks so much Jill for this wonderful post. Just like your art...it is creative, vibrant, joyful and just overflowing with great things!

I see several of my 'blogging buddies' here in the comments and that's what I love about blogging. I started my site about a year ago as a way to show what I create so I don't feel so much in a vacuum. I didn't know if anyone but me would read the blog or see what I create, but since I don't sell my creations yet, I felt the need to "put it out there". What I found was an amazingly supportive and encouraging community - I've learned SO much.

Seth's blog is a must read and through that I've met so many new (to me) and talented artists, of which you're one. I'm so glad to "meet" you!

So wonderful, Jill, getting a chance to check out your amazing work, today, on The Altered Page, before I get my grubby little hands on Seth's book, and have it to peruse at my leisure, next week! As most others have said, I (of course), love your daring use of color, but am also entranced by your sophisticated use of compositional space unifying your far-ranging colors, materials, and ideas! How great to have been a friend of Mr. Apter for such a long time. I imagine you have some great stories to tell! Looking forward to Seth's answers to your questions!
